SUBJECT: Towsley Canyon Bridge Repair Request
DEPARTMENT: Public Works
During the last major storms, the river rose over the bridge at Towsley Canyon eroding the
fill material and the river bank on the side of the bridge. The Santa Monica Mountains
Conservancy (the Park's conservator) has requested assistance from the City to repair part of
the bridge and landscaping along the river edge.
Work will consist of building a sandbag wall, slurry mix and backfill. This should take
approximately three days to complete at a cost of approximately $5000.
Although Towsley Canyon Park is just outside City boundaries, it serves as an important
natural resource, meeting and recreational area to many Santa Clarita residents.
Due to the bridge damage, staff is concerned about its accessibility to Santa Clarita residents.
Staff, therefore, recommends that we repair the bridge area.
RECOMMENDATION
Direct staff to take action to make temporary repairs to the Towsley Canyon bridge area and
that the cost to the City shall not exceed $5000. These funds shall come from the Streets
Maintenance budget.
