The project consists of the installation of a four -leg traffic signal system and median modifications for the purpose of upgrading the intersection capacity by Improving both vehicular and pedestrian traffic at the intersection of Lyons Avenue and Wayman Street. On November 4, 1992, the following bids were received by the City Clerk: Company Address Hovey Electric 13028 Whittram Avenue, Rancho Cucamonga Padilla Paving Co. 17235 Sierra Highway, Santa Clarita Steiny and Co. 2230 E. Orangethorpe Avenue, Fullerton Damon Construction 455 Carson Plaza Drive, Carson Bid Amount $107,368.50 $120,922.50 $109,918.00 - $119,676.00 The Engineer's estimate for construction of this project is $93,080.00. A total of $196,449 has been budgeted under Account No. 25-95010-227 for design, contract administration, inspection, and construction of this project. Staff advertised locally and accepted bids from local companies. The bid award process Is governed by State law.. The California State Contract Act, Article 5, Section 10180, states, "The department shall publicly open the sealed bids and award the contracts to the lowest responsible bidders." Staff recommends. that the project be awarded to Hovey Electric, the low bidder. Hovey Electric possesses the necessary State Contractor's license and Is a member In good standing. RECOMMENDATION Award contract to Hovey Electric in the amount of $107,368.50. hds/lyons.jas Item:k%9%#11%;3
