MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING
FEBRUARY 18, 1992
CALL TO ORDER The special meeting of the City Council of the City of Santa
Clarita was called to order by Mayor Jill Klajic at 4:34
p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 23920 Valencia Blvd., 1st
floor, Santa Clarita, CA.
ROLL CALL All Councilmembers were present except for Mayor Pro -Tem,
McKeon. Also present were: City Manager, George Caravalho;
Deputy City Engineer, Dick Kopecky, Building Official,
Rueben Barrera, City Clerk, Donna Grindey.
ITEM 1 City Manager, George Caravalho reported that the purpose of
RESOLUTION NO. 91-174 the special meeting is to convene Council in order to adopt
PROCLAIMING Resolution 91-173, confirming the existence of a local
TERMINATION OF LOCAL emergency and Resolution 91-174, proclaiming the termination
EMERGENCY of the local emergency in the City of Santa Clarita and to
receive a presentation from the City Manager and staff as to
the outcome of the damage and the costs incurred during the
rainfall.
City Manager, George Caravalho summarized the storm damage
which occurred throughout the City and the emergency
response from City services. He recommended that the City
Council give commendations to all City staff that provided
service throughout the emergency situation.
Building Official, Rueben Barrera reported on public and
private sector damage and cost estimates. He also discussed
the evacuation of Maplebay Court residents in Friendly
Valley and gave damage estimates for the area.
Deputy City Engineer, Dick Kopecky exhibited a slide
presentation and reported on damage incurred by the Valencia
Boulevard Bridge and roadway and to the Mulberry Mobilehome
Park.
Following discussion regarding the responsibility of the
Flood Control District in keeping the channels clear of
debris, protective measures for Mulberry Mobilehome Park,
utilizing volunteers to safeguard Mulberry Mobilehome Park
with sandbags, Council directed staff to meet with the owner
and tenants of Mulberry Mobilehome Park to coordinate
volunteer efforts to secure the Mulberry Mobilehome Park
with sand bags to prevent additional storm damage. It was
moved by Boyer and seconded by Heidt to direct staff to
prepare a formal resolution listing all staff members who
assisted in the emergency efforts and to present the
employees with commendations at the March 10, 1992 City
Council Meeting and to adopt Resolution No. 91-173 and
Resolution No. 91-174.
On roll call vote:
Ayes: Boyer, Darcy, Heidt, Klajic
Noes: None
Absent: McKeon
Resolution Nos. 91-173 and 91-174 adopted.
ADJOURNMENT At 5:17 p.m. it was moved by Boyer and seconded by Darcy to
adjourn the Special Meeting of the City Council.
Hearing no objections, it was so ordered.
