A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA,
CALIFORNIA, DESIGNATING AN EDUCATION CURRICULUM
TO PROMOTE SOURCE REDUCTION, RECYCLING AND
COMPOSTING PROGRAMS IN THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA.
WHEREAS, on September 24, 1991, the City of Santa Clarita adopted its
Source Reduction and Recycling Element (SRRE) in compliance with the mandates of the
California Integrated Waste Management Act of 1989, and
WHEREAS, the SRRE for the City recommends the "Recycle Today!"
curriculum developed and published by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as
an education curriculum for grades K-12,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Santa Clarita that the City does hereby adopt the "Recycle Today!" education curriculum.

Curriculum

Currently a number of recycling curricula are available for City-wide use. By providing a uniform
curriculum for each school in Santa Clarita, a consistent and grade specific educational program can
be achieved. The following curricula have been researched and are referenced below:

Grade Level: 1-3 only

Grade Level: 3-4 only
Cost: $90.00 per classroom kit (minimum order, 10 kits)

School Districts
The following is a review of the school districts with Santa Clarita. Total enrollment figures for the
1992-93 school year are indicated below:
Elementary School Districts: Newhall, Saugus Union, and Sulphur Springs
Anticipated enrollment of 19,820 at 23 elementary schools
Junior/Senior High Schools: William S. Hart Union School District
Anticipated enrollment of 11,054 students at eight junior and senior
high schools
