Rick Putna CONSENT CALENDAR DATE: SUBJECT: DEPARTMENT: BACKGROUND DECEMBER 14, 1993 1993 WINTER STORM REIMBURSEMENT, FEMA -979 -DR, PA.037-69088 PARKS, RECREATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICES The City of Santa Clarita experienced damage as a result of a series of extremely heavy rains, causing mud slides, collapsed hillsides and widespread flooding during January and February 1993. On February 3, 1993, President Clinton issued a Disaster Declaration FEMA -979 -DR, Winter Storms of January, 1993. February. 22, 1993, Los Angeles County and incorporated cities, including the City of Santa Clarita, were designated as additions to the FEMA -979 -DR -CA. On March 2, 1993, the City of Santa Clarita submitted a Notice of Interest in applying for federal disaster assistance. The City Council of the City of Santa Clarita approved Resolution No. 93-35, thereby authorizing the City Manager and designates as authorized agents to execute and file the application to the Office of Emergency Services for the purpose of obtaining certain federal and/or state financial assistance. The City of Santa Clarita incurred costs as a result of the storms in the amount of $156,149. Of this amount, $66,381 was paid during fiscal year 1992/93, with the balance of $89,768 to be incurred during fiscal year 1993/94. FEMA has approved reimbursement in the amount of $117,718, and OES has approved reimbursement in the amount of $33,401.
