Harris yo� CONSENT CALENDAR DATE: May 11, 1993 SUBJECT: Authorization for City to Negotiate Professional Services Agreement for Printing of City Marketing Materials DEPARTMENT: Community Development BACKGROUND In December 1992, the City Council authorized the use of funds to hire Thayer Keener, Inc., a marketing consultant group to assist the City In the development of marketing brochures in partial fulfillment of the first-year economic development marketing program efforts. Thayer Keener has been working with Economic Development Staff, the Public Information Officer, members of the business community, and the Chambers of Commerce to. finalize the text and layout of the brochures. Those Items are completed and ready for printing. (The contact between the City and Thayer Keener does not Include printing expenses.) In response, staff has prepared a Request for Proposal for the purpose completing the printing task. The printing scope of work Includes six (6) brochure segments, including quality of life, retail, Industrial, film, community profile, visitors and tourism, and a presentation folder. Eight (8) printing firms responded to the request for proposal. With the assistance of the marketing consultant, staff Is recommending Berkeley Lithograph, a local firm, to complete the work. The firm was chosen based on the following criteria: the firm's technical capability, its ability to complete the entire work task in-house, and its close proximity. Additionally, the City's marketing consultant Inspected and reviewed the printing equipment of various local firms. This firm submitted the lowest bid and is qualified to print City's marketing brochure segments. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends that the City Council award the bid to Berkeley Lithographers and authorize staff to negotiate a professional services agreement.
