HomeMy WebLinkAbout1993-03-09 - AGENDA REPORTS - CITY HALL ARTS (2)NEW BUSINESS DATE: SUBJECT: DEPARTMENT: BACKGROUND AGENDA REPORT City Manager Item to be presented by:F Mayor Janice Heidt March 9, 1993 Proposed City Hall Arts Council City Manager Several studies have been performed by the Santa Clarita Valley Arts Council's Facilities Committee, to evaluate the nature of the. performing art facility needs. Based on the fact that the Santa Clarita Valley Arts Council has been given, in 1989, the mandate to provide and charged with the responsibility on behalf of the City of Santa Clarita, to determine the needs of the various performing and visual arts groups within the community; provided various shows, opera, etc., to the community, and determine community levels of interest, to work with the various groups in the community, and to bring in shows,. opera, etc. to supplement the local talent. The Santa Clarita Valley Arts Council is requesting the City grant. approximately 20 acres of real property, and that the site preparation and infrastructure for. the Performing Arts Center be provided by the City to.coincide its commencement with the initiation of Phase I of the Civic Center development plan. The Arts Council is also requesting that the financing of the eventually developed Performing Arts Center be accomplished by obtaining funds through various mechanisms including; Arts Council capital campaign grants from local, State and Federal funding agencies, foundation support from various sectors; conforming bank financing, and additional support from the City if deemed necessary.
