HomeMy WebLinkAbout1993-07-13 - AGENDA REPORTS - EMERGENCY PURCHASE HVAC (2)AGENDA REPORT City Manager Approval Item to be presented by CONSENT CALENDAR DATE: July 13, 1993 SUBJECT: Emergency Purchase of HVAC Compressors for City Hall Building DEPARTMENT: Public Works BACKGROUND The purchase of the City Hall Building transferred responsibility of maintenance and repairs from the previous owner to the City. Within this realm of responsibility is the system which controls heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) throughout the building. On June 10, 1993, three (3) compressors required for the HVAC system ceased to function. Inspection of the compressors by the present maintenance company indicated that the compressor units would no longer function and required immediate replacement. Staff outlined the situation to the City Manager and provided some alternatives. Due to the urgent nature of this project and the unreasonable working environment created by the malfunction, staff was directed to obtain three (3) written quotes and proceed with repairs immediately. The following quotes were received: COMPANY LOCATION AMOUNT LEADTIME/INSTALLATION Sheldon Mechanical Sun Valley $14,020.00 1 week / 4 days Honeywell Inc. Woodland Hills $14,043.80 1 day / 2.5 days Freenergy Santa Clarita $16,250.00 1 day / 4 days Based on the above written quotes, staff contracted with Honeywell, Inc. to begin immediate, replacement of the three (3) compressors. Honeywell was selected over Sheldon Mechanical because time was of the essence. The project was completed in the timeframe initially quoted by Honeywell and all units are working satisfactorily.
