AMENDMENT TO SECTION 11.44.080 OF THE SANTA CLARITA MUNICIPAL
CODE CONCERNING PERMITTED HOURS OF CONSTRUCTION WORK

Upon request from Councllmember Boyer, the Building & Safety Division, In conjunction with the
City Attorney prepared amendments to the construction hours section of the Municipal Code, SCMC
11.44.080 to clarify the existing section and remove ambiguity that made it difficult to enforce.
The proposed amendments to the construction hours requirements of the City are Intended to
clarify the existing section by clearly specifying during which holidays construction activity is
prohibited and adding additional restrictions to the allowed hours of construction on Saturdays,
which Is not a traditional work day, by reducing the time to 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. In lieu of 7 a.m. to 7
p.m. The new section also clearly defines what "...In or adjacent to a residential area,..." means by
specifying that it is related to the Zoning of the property noted in the UDC, and that the section only
applies to work done In association with any building permit issued by the City. It will also clearly
Indicate that the Intent Is to limit noise and allows for a procedure to authorize construction work
during otherwise restricted hours by having the. City review the noise effects of proposed
construction work.
The amendment will not effect the enforcement of any other portion of the Municipal Code.
RECOMMENDATION
Introduce Ordinance 934, waive further reading and pass to second reading.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF.SANTA CLARITA, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING THE
SANTA CLARITA MUNICIPAL CODE AT SECTION
11.44.080 RELATING TO PERMITTED HOURS OF
CONSTRUCTION WORK
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA, CALIFORNIA,
DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The Santa Clarita Municipal Code is hereby
amended at Section 11.44.080 to read as follows:
"11.44.080 Same -- Construction and Building.
No person shall engage in any construction work which
requires a building permit from the City on sites within 300 feet
of a residentially zoned property except between the hours of
7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8:00 a.m. to
6:00 p.m. on ,Saturday. Further, no work shall be performed on
the following public holidays: New Year's Day, Independence Day,
Thanksgiving, Christmas, Memorial Day and Labor Day.
Emergency work as defined in Section 11.44.020D"is permitted
at all times
The Community Development Department may issue a permit for
work to be done "after hours" provided that containment -of
construction noises is provided."
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this ordinance and shall cause the same to be published as
required by law.
