Staff believes that It Is time to give the City Council an update on the project, and the project applicant has requested the opportunity to give the Council a brief slide presentation regarding the project. The Planning Commission previously viewed a slide presentatiori on Porta Bella. Because of the considerable public Interest this project will generate and because of Its proximity to the Civic Center, staff believes that some background information would be useful. The Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) Is nearing completion, and staff expects to begin the public hearing process for the case before the Planning Commission at the October 19, 1993, meeting. Staff has directed the applicant to present a broad overview of the project to the Council using no more than 10 minutes. This is not a decision making Item; it Is Informational. An attachment from the Specific Plan offers a concise summary of the project characteristics. RECOMMENDATIONS Staff recommends that the City Council allow the applicant to make an Informational slide presentation and to receive and file this report.
