SUBJECT: AWARD FOR THE DESIGN AND ENGINEERING CONTRACT
FOR PHASE 11 OF THE SANTA CLARA RIVER TRAIL
DEPARTMENT: PARKS, RECREATION, AND COMMUNITY SERVICES
BACKGROUND
The City of Santa Clarita, through its planning efforts with the General Plan, the Santa Clara River
Water and Recreation Features Study, and the Community Strategic Plan, has identified a
Class 1, or off-street, trail facility to be located within the Santa Clara River corridor. Much of the
focus during the past year has been on identifying and submitting competitive grant applications
to assist in the funding of this project. The City has been very successful in its applications for
this project and has much of this trail funded.
The design for Phase I of the Santa Clara River Trail is almost completed, with construction
scheduled for this summer. Public input from the Canyon Country community was positive, with
support of an alignment on the north side of the river. Phase I of this trail will include the section
along the river from the Soleclad bridge near Camp Plenty Road to the east side of Sierra
Highway. Phase 11 of the Santa Clara River Trail will extend from Sierra Highway eastward to
Lost Canyon Road.
Staff is prepared to begin the design process for Phase 11 of the Santa Clara River Trail. Through
a qualifications based selection process, David Evans & Associates, Inc. (DEA) was prequalified
and recommended by staff to design Phase 11 of the Santa Clara River Trail. Staff has discussed
this project with DEA including a detailed field review, and is confident in DEA's ability to perform
the work. Based on the scope of work discussed with DEA, costs for design services for this
project will not exceed $200,000.
RECOMMENDATION
Direct staff to enter into negotiations and authorize that a contract be entered into with David
Evans & Associates, Inc. for design services for Phase 11 of the Santa Clara River Trail project.
