SUBJECT: EMERGENCY STREET RESTORATION WORK
OFF -SYSTEM ROADS - III (PROJECT NO. 95-912)
ADVERTISE FOR BIDS
DEPARTMENT: Community Development
City streets and roadways damaged by the January 17, 1994 Northridge earthquake were
repaired under several "Off -System Roads" contracts. While the street repairs were being
performed subsequent aftershocks caused additional damages to street facilities throughout
the City.
A portion of the cost of the project is being funded by Federal Emergency Management.
Administration (FEMA) and therefore, the need to advertise "Off -System Roads - IIP'
following FEMA guidelines.
Newspaper ads publicized the need for residents in the City to 'ball -in" to staff for repairs
of damaged curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and pavement as a result of the earthquake or
aftershocks. We have received in excess of 130 telephone calls providing us with locations
of damaged facilities. A compiled list of locations of damaged facilities has been prepared and
the project is ready for bid.
Reimbursement of funds expended for this project are being requested from the FEMA, and
Account No. 90-39109-227 Off -System Roads -III has been established to track all costs
associated with the project..
Specifications for this project have been completed and are available for review in the offices
of the City Clerk and the Director of Community Development.
Approve the specifications for the project and authorize the advertising for bids. Appropriate
$220,000.00 to Expenditure Account No. 90-39109-227 Off -System Roads -III and increase
Estimated Revenues in Account No, 90-3597.
