Resolution No. 94.44
DEPARTMENT: Community Development
BACKGROUND
The Traffic Engineering staff has conducted a traffic study at the above referenced intersections
for possible installation of stop controls (see Exhibit "A", Vicinity Map). Presently, all five subject
intersections are uncontrolled four-way intersections.
Altamonte Avenue Is an east -west residential collector street. The roadway is 36 feet wide with
curb and sidewalk on each side. The roadway has one (1) travel lane In each direction, and
on -street parking is permitted. The prima facie speed limit is 25 mph.
Nashua Way, Oiivas Park Road, Parada Drive, Quilla Drive and Rana Drive are north -south
residential cul-de-sac streets. These roadways are 34 feet wide with curb and sidewalk on each
side. Each of these roadways intersects with Altamonte Avenue and form a four-way intersection.
Installation of four-way and two-way stop control at the intersections were considered in this study.
Based on the results of the study, none of these intersections satisfied the standard four-way stop
warrants established by the California State Department of Transportation (Caltrans). However,
installation of two-way stop controls would be beneficial for the motorists using the subject
intersections for the following reasons:
Presently the subject four-way intersections are uncontrolled.
The proposed stop controls will establish a positive right-of-way control for the motorists
entering the subject intersections.
The total estimated cost for installation of signs is approximately $1,000. Funds are available in
Account No. 02-5402.227 for this purpose.
