HomeMy WebLinkAbout1994-01-25 - AGENDA REPORTS - MOU METROLINK OVERFLOW PARKING (2)AGENDA REPORT City Manager Approval Item to be presented by: CONSENT CALENDAR DATE: January 25, 1994 SUBJECT: MOU for Metrolink Overflow Parking - Triangle Site DEPARTMENT: Public Works Background Due to the January 17, 1994 "Northridge Earthquake" access to points south of the intersection of Interstate 5 and 14 Freeway have been choked off from the Santa Clarita and Antelope Valleys due to the failure of major bridges and roads. In response large number of commuters have turned to Metrolink commuter trains to service their transportation needs. The demand for parking has exceeded the Stations's capacity, and there is a need to acquire overflow parking. Over the past week City staff have been working with representatives of the Whittaker Corporation and Northholme Partners to secure overflow parking for Metrolink riders. By verbal approval, over the past week riders have been parking on Whittaker /Northholme property known as the "Triangle." This Triangle overflow parking area will increase total capacity by approximately 250 for a total of approximately 1,000 spaces. To date the current rail station parking and overflow have been filled to capacity but is meeting the demand. Staff recommends that the City Council take urgent action to ratify the attached indemnification letter dated January 24, 1994, between the City and Whittaker /Northholme Partners so rail commuters could park their vehicles in the overflow lot beginning Monday, January 24,1994. Staff also recommends that the City Council approve the attached Memorandum of Understanding between the City and Whittaker/Northholme which would state in writing previous verbal agreements for overflow parking. This use would be on a month to month bases for $1.00 dollar per year. Recommendation 1. That the City Council ratify the indemnification letter signed by the City Manager. 2. That the City Council approve the attached MOU with Whittaker/Northholme providing overflow parking on Bermite property known as the Triangle, and give the City Manager the authority to make minor changes that we might receive from Whittaker/Northholme Partners.
