HomeMy WebLinkAbout1994-04-26 - AGENDA REPORTS - SAN FERNANDO RD ST TREE IMPROV (2)AGENDA REPORT City Manager Approval Item to be presented RickPutnam .y l CONSENT CALENDAR Z9 DATE:- April 26, 1994 SUBJECT: Bid Award for San Fernando Road Street Tree Improvement Project Phase Two (Project No. 99-019) DEPARTMENT: Parks, Recreation, and Community Services BACKGROUND The Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department has completed the bidding process for Phase Two of the San Fernando Road street tree improvements as authorized by the City Council at its March 22, 1994 meeting. The project includes the installation of 118 Australian willow and Bradford pear trees, including a bubbler assembly irrigation system along the easterly side of San Fernando Road between 16th and Drayton Streets. Planting cannot be accomplished for 1/2 mile along the corridor in the vicinity of the MTA waiting track due to limited space in that area. The project length is 1-112 miles long. Eight (8) firms purchased bid documents. A total of three (3) firms submitted bid proposals for this project and the bids were publicly opened at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 7, 1994. Public notices regarding this bid were placed in the Daily News and the Signal three (3) times over two-week period. None of the firms responding to the bid documents were local., The following bids were received: COMPANY LOCATION BID Green Coast Landscaping Los Angeles $55,680 Ecology Construction Canoga Park $57,676 S & M Construction Asuza $73,644 Green Coast Landscaping was the lowest responsible bidder for this project. Reference checks with other public agencies covering previous projects have been acceptable. Installation of the trees and irrigation systems will begin in mid-May. Approximately one (1) month will be required to complete this project. The engineer's estimate for construction is $63,050: Funds for this project are available in account 24-99019-227 and are a result of a successful Environmental Enhancement and Mitigation (EEM) grant submitted by the City. RECOMMENDATION That the City Council award the contract for Phase Two of the San Fernando Road street tree improvement project to Green Coast Landscaping in the amount of $55,680, and that the remaining portion of the EEM grant in the amount of $15,000 be reserved for potential change orders once construction begins. o.vn W2-bda..ddp.
