SUBJECT: Santa Clara River Park Site Planning Consultant
DEPARTMENT: Parks, Recreation, and Community Services
On November 3, 1992, voters approved Proposition "A" the Safe Neighborhood Parks Act. The
Specified Projects Program portion of Proposition "A" allocated $2,480,000. in funding to the City
of Santa Clarita for the acquisition and development of the Santa Clara River Park.
The Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Services has opened discussions and
negotiations with California State Polytechnic University - Pomona to provide the park site
identification and site use planning for the Santa Clara River Park(s). The primary use of Cal
Poly -Pomona expertise and talent, will be to conduct and coordinate a series of public forums for
the project scoping, information development, and exchange and review by regulating agencies
for development mitigation consensus of the Santa Clara River Park sites. The university has
completed several similar plans for local, County, and State agencies and is respected for their
community planning expertise and concerns for Significant Ecological Areas (SEA). Utilization
of the University as a independent consultant will provide an excellent level of comfort for land
owner, adjacent city residents, and governing agencies on the above tasks.
