It is also an opportunity for the community to give input as to what they would like to see as part of the recovery effort.. Grindey, CMC City Clerk Geri Miller- Davis Deputy City Clerk Dated: February 25, 1994 DMG:1112 CITY OF SANTA CLARITA TOWN HALL MEETING ADJOURNED CITY COUNCIL MEETING February 28, 1994 7:00 p.m. Placerita Jr. High School Mayor Pederson called the town hall meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. at Placerita Jr. High School. The flag salute was led by the Mayor. Roll call was taken by the City Clerk. All were present except Jan Heidt. Mayor Pederson introduced the City Manager, George Caravalho who gave an overview of activities of the City since the earthquake of January 17, 1994. Mr. Caravalho also explained that a team leader program has been formed by which staff is working to complete certain areas. The team leader issues include FEMA/Hazard mitigation, building and safety recovery unit, City Hall restoration, employee wellness, refuseand debris removal, mobilehomes, roads, bridges, traffic, transit, red tags and demolition, use of the corporation yard, water storage, financing, redevelopment, public health, public information, access roads and traffic, economic recovery, homeless, insurance, and paseos. Items the public were concerned about were the contractor hired by the City to lift the coaches; also concerned about retrofitting, and utilities and inspections of mobilehomes; connecting the utilities; earthquake types of bracing; condos in Valencia that are limited entry and management companies not returning resident calls; working with building and safety; FEMA issues; mobilehome parks with no hot water 2, months after earthquake; paying rent while living elsewhere; will FEMA pay the rent; residents going to the service center more than two times for help; calling building and safety phone lines and no one responding; the bus system on Sierra Highway and San Fernando Rd.; traffic in the City; the detours; the bridge on the Old Road. Staff answered questions from the public. FEMA representative was available. He explained what FEMA is and is not and answered questions from the public. He also explained the difference between FEMA and SBA loans. Mr. Caravalho requested the public send their suggestions to the City periodically.
