Item to be presented by:
Robert G. Newman
CONSENT CALENDAR
DATE: November 14, 1995
SUBJECT: 15TH STREET IMPROVEMENTS FROM SAN FERNANDO ROAD TO
NEWHALL AVENUE - PROJECT NO. 95-504
DEPARTMENT: Building and Engineering Services
15th Street in West Newhall, between San Fernando Road and Newhall Avenue, has been
selected by the Community Development Department staff as the next area to receive
improvements (See Exhibit "A"). Under the City's Community Development Block Grant
(CDBG) allocation, the selection of a consultant to perform design services is the first phase of
the process towards the construction of this project. Construction is estimated to begin in
approximately 6 months.
15th Street is located in West Newhall approximately 1/4 mile north of San Fernando Road and
serves as an eastlwest collector. This project will install improvements on 15th Street from
San Fernando Road to Newhall Avenue. Currently, 15th Street is mostly unimproved with no
curbs, gutters, or sidewalks, except on the south side near San Fernando Road. The proposed
improvements include the installation of curbs, gutters, sidewalks and street reconstruction.
Staff prepared a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the subject project. The RFD's were sent to
firms on the City's Design Consultants list. Twenty-two firms responded by submitting
proposals (See Exhibit "B"). Based on technical qualifications and methodology for the project,
Korve Engineering, Inc., is the recommended firm.
RECOMMENDED ACTION
Authorize the City Manager to execute contract for design services to Korve Engineering, Inc.,
in the amount not to exceed $32,000.00 and $6,400.00 for contingency. Funds are currently
available in Account #12-95504-227 for this work.
