SUBJECT: Award Contract for Earthquake City Parks Repair Project No. PR 95-038
DEPARTMENT: Parks, Recreation, and Community Services
BACKGROUND
The Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department recently accepted bids for the Earthquake City
Parks Repair Project No. PR 95-038. The project consists of concrete, asphalt, drywall, and various cosmetic
and structural repairs at seven City park sites: Newhall, Old Orchard, Valencia Glen, Valencia Meadows, Santa
Clarita, North Oaks, and Canyon Country. Funds for the project have been budgeted for a total of $277,260.00.
The repair of City parks is an eligible FEMA project, and staff is working with FEMA and OES to secure full
reimbursement.
Project No. PR 95-038 was advertised for public bids. Sixteen bid packages were distributed and included two
local contractors. Five bid proposals were submitted for the project. The bids were opened on Tuesday,
February 28, 1995. The bid results are as follows:

After completing the review of all bids, background references, and bonding companies, staff has determined
McAlpine & Salyer to be the lowest responsible bidder.

1. The City Council award the contract for Earthquake City Parks Repair Project No. PR 95-038 for a total
amount of $110,700.00, and that an additional $22,140.00 be approved should any change orders become
necessary, for a grand total of 132,840.00.
2. The City Council authorize staff to issue a purchase order to McAlpine & Salyer in the amount of
$132,840.00, comprised of $110,700.00 for base bid items and $22,140,00 reserved for change orders.
Authorize the City Manager or his designate to approve change orders.
