SUBJECT: Economic Development Strategy
BACKGROUND
Using funding from the Economic Development Administration planning grant following
the Northridge Earthquake, the City contracted with Economic Strategies Group (ESG), to
assist the City's economic development staff in updating the City's Economic Development
Strategy prepared in 1991.
ESG undertook an extensive analysis of Santa Clarita's competitive position in the
economic development marketplace which included a business climate assessment, and a
comparative study of Santa Clarita versus fourteen other areas. This research also
included over eighty interviews with persons representing different segments of the
community. ESG also facilitated eight small workshops around four issues to further
define and discuss an economic development strategy. Finally, ESG designed and
installed an impact/benefit model, and completed a targeted industry study to guide our
attraction efforts.
