SUBJECT: Purchase of Engineering Software
DEPARTMENT: Administrative Services
Over the past several years, the Engineering Department has relied heavily on the use of special
computer design software called SoftDesk and AutoCAD. These software packages are very
specialized, available from limited sources, and require timely service. Data Resource Tracking
is an authorized AutoCAD dealer and the only SoftDesk licensed dealer. Data Resource
Tracking is the only dealer capable of supplying, installing and supporting both AutoCAD and
SoftDesk software packages. The AutoCAD manufacturer has recently upgraded their software
and the Engineering Department is in need of the upgrade. The cost of this upgrade is
$4,764.00. In addition to these upgrades, additional engineering modules have been identified
and budgeted for an amount of $14,120. The modules will significantly enhance the staff's
ability to produce quality engineering drawings. These software items, for a total of $20,441.93
with sales tax, have been funded in the 95/96 budget.
Staff recommends that City Council approve the expenditure of funds in the amount of
$20,441.93 from the General Fund Account Number 01-4620-248 ($13,483.00) and the Gas Tax
Account Number 02-5400-227 ($6,959.00) for the purchase of the SoftDesk and AutoCAD
software from Data Resource Tracking.
