Caravalho, City Manager DATE: April 4, 1995 SUBJECT: SULTUS STREET BRIDGE PROPOSAL BACKGROUND Representatives of the Sand Canyon Oaks Public Safety Committee have requested an opportunity to address the City Council at a study session in order to informally discuss their concept to construct a bridge across the Sand Canyon Wash at Sultus Street. The Council and staff have received much correspondence regarding this matter over the past few months. The basic concept is to construct a bridge utilizing portions of right-of-way previously offered for dedication (but not accepted) on several approved subdivision maps.. Further, the proponents have indicated that this crossing will be 100% privately financed. This will involve considerable expense for the design, processing and construction activities.. Prior to expending these funds and prior to submitting a formal application and paying the required fees, the proponents would like some indication from the Council supporting this concept and specifically, agreeing to accept the previous offers of dedication to allow for the construction of this crossing and bridge. This request will formally be brought before the Council at its regular April 11, 1995 meeting. At this time staff has not received any type of formal application or moneys of deposit for review of this concept. To date no actual bridge design or calculations have been submitted. This issue is very controversial in this area and staff has met with both proponents and opponents of the issue. The proponents would like to provide additional information and background to assist the Council in evaluating their request. and staff will be available to answer any questions. RECOMMENDATION Refer to the April 11th City Council meeting. ATTACHMENTS Exhibit "A' - Vicinity Map of Area GAC:CCP:lkl cou=d\studyc p _9A enda item:___1___ i CA SO f I F, i o.
