The purpose of this meeting is two fold: 1) For the committee to review agency resubmittals and new requests for second funding cycle and determine agencies to be recommended for grant funding to City Council. There is $40,650 Community Services Grant funds available for grant awards to agencies. 2) For the committee to discuss possible administrative changes to the grant process and recommend these changes be incorporated into next year's program. Attached for your review and comment is the Agency Recommendation List, agency applications, and the Administrative Policy Changes List. Please bring your agency recommendations along with your suggestions for the grant process and criteria to the meeting. The clinics teach self- esteem and confidence through the sport of baseball. 2. Boy Scouts of America, New Communities $ 5,000 To fund New Communities, Wm. S. Hart School Dist. The program serves low income families at parks, schools, and community centers and provides recreational activities, life skills education, role models, and provides alternatives to drugs and gangs. It is operated in cooperation with school officials and other community based organizations. 3. Heads Up, Inc. Los Angeles Retarded LARC Service Express $ 3,000 To purchase a truck for start-up Citizens Foundation job training program for Contact: Gloria Hillard developmentally challenged adults. The job training site is a thrift store which will train adults in retail marketing skills. The truck is needed to obtain and supply donated merchandise to the store. 6. Mad About Rising Crime, MARC Speaks $ 1,000 To fund 50% match for equipment MARC, Santa Clarita to provide MARC Speaks Chapter Community Outreach Program. Contact: Johnathan Myl MARC Speaks will provide informative anti-crime community education programs to Santa Clarita residents. The organization is willing to share equipment with other community programs involved in crime prevention and reduction. 7. Homes Community cottages, tables and chairs for educational Project/Camp classes, and purchase of blankets, pillows, Cisquito and mattress. 3 Mint Canyon Elementary Padres ESL (English $ 1,920 The Padres ESL project will provide School as a Second English as a Second Language Services Contact: Dan Levy Language) through the use a computers for parents of school -aged children at no cost to parents. 4 Newhall Elementary Pre -Kindergarten $5,000 To pay for start-up costs to begin a pre - School District Program for kindergarten program at Newhall and Old Contact: Betty Granger four -year-olds Orchard Elementary Schools giving children abrisk a beadstart for kindergarten. Program will provide educational opportunities for children whose parents cannot afford private school and will meet the needs of children on the Headstart waiting list. As part of the proposal, Newhall School District will provide in kind services in salaries, rents, and leases, utilities, telephone, mileage, maintenance, supplies, and insurance.
