Orchard Rooms A & B 23920 Valencia Blvd., 1st Floor Santa Clarita, CA 91355 AGENDA s Study Sessions are for the purpose of allowing the City Council and staff to informally discuss and better understand major issues currently before the City. CALL TO ORDER ROLL CALL FLAG SALUTE Item 1 7:00 P.M. LONG RANGE SOLID WASTE FINANCIAL PLAN - Pursuant to the California Integrated Waste Management Act of 1989 (AB 939), the City of Santa Clarita is mandated to divert 25% of its Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) from landfills by the year 1995, and 50% by the year 2000. Strongest methods in which to achieve this mandate are through source reduction, recycling, composting and transformation. The City of Santa Clarita supports the development of emerging technologies to increase diversion from landfills. RECOMMENDED ACTION. 1) Direct staff to further investigate solid waste disposal alternatives, their cost impacts on tipping fees and their adaptability to our community's solid waste management needs. 2) Direct staff to develop a, study recommending an integrated approach allowing gradual elimination of urban landfills. Item 2 7:45 P.M. RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TRANSIT AND LAND USE - Santa Clarita Transit has made considerable progress over the past three and a half years in increasing transit use. However this has been accomplished in a physical environment that presents many challenges. The purpose of tonight's presentation is to highlight these challenges and discuss possible remedies. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Receive presentation and discuss. 8:30 P.M.
