SUBJECT: CANVASS OF GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION
RESOLUTION NO. 96-36
DEPARTMENT: City Manager
Resolution No. 96-36 orders the canvass of the elections by the City Clerk who shall complete
the canvass prior to the Tuesday following the election and shall certify the results to the City
Council on April 16, 1996.
The canvass is made by verifying that the elections officer has correctly accounted for all ballots
received from the City Clerk, issued to the voter, returned for counting by the voter and
returned to the City Clerk as spoiled, canceled and unused. The City Clerk shall also verify that
the two tally sheets for each precinct and for absentee voting are identical and that the total
number of voters does not exceed the number of people who signed the roster. One precinct is
also to be verified by a hand tally, to verify the computer count.

RESOLUTION NO. 96-36
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA CLARITA, CALIFORNIA,
ORDERING THE CANVASS OF THE GENERAL
MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY, APRIL 9,1996,
BE MADE BY THE CITY CLERK.
WHEREAS, a General Municipal Election will be held and conducted in the City of Santa
Clarita, California, on Tuesday, April 9, 1996, as required by law; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires the canvass of the election to be made by the City Clerk;
NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA,
CALIFORNIA, DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That pursuant to Section 10263 of the Elections Code of the State of California,
the canvass of the General Municipal Election to be held is ordered to be made by the City Clerk.
SECTION 2. That the City Clerk shall complete the canvass of the election prior to the
Tuesday following the election, and shall certify the results to the City Council on that day.
SECTION 3. That this resolution shall apply only to the election to be held on April 9,1996,
and shall then be repealed.
SECTION 4. That the City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this resolution
and enter it into the book of original resolutions.
