SUBJECT: COMMISSIONER COMPENSATION
DEPARTMENT: City Council
City of Santa Clarita Parks & Recreation Commissioners and Planning Commissioners are
compensated monthly by the City for the hard work and dedication they provide to the City
Council and this community. The current compensation levels, established in 1991, are as
follows:
Parks & Recreation Commissioners
$75.00/meeting
not to exceed $150.00/month.
Planning Commissioners
$105.00/meeting
not to exceed $420.00/month.
The Parks & Recreation Commission was created and established by the City Council to make
recommendations on matters relating to the recreation and parks for this community. Its
purpose is to monitor the needs of the community and work with staff to provide a balanced
recreation program; promote the Parks & Recreation Department programs; plan for the
development of existing and future parks and open space and foster cooperation between the
City, the public and community groups to enhance recreation programs.
The Planning Commission was created and established by the City Council in accordance with
the provisions of the Planning Law of the State of California, the Subdivision Map Act and
pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 3 of Title 7 of the Government Code.
The Planning Commission considers and decides upon various applications for land use and
development. This body also advises the City Council on matters relating to land use and land
development in the City.. This includes the development and implementation of the General
Plan, the Zoning Ordinance and other land use regulations and recommendations on
development applications.

Commissioner compensation is established in the Municipal Code for the City of Santa
Clarita. These sections have been amended by Ordinance of the City Council two times since
the Commissions were established in 1988, as follows:

Introduce Ordinance 96-20 amending Chapter 2.26, Section 2.26.080 and Ordinance 96-21
amending Chapter 2.28, Section 2.28.090 of the Municipal Code of the City of Santa Clarita
to increase Commission compensation by Five Dollars ($5.00) per meeting effective July 1,
1996, waive further reading and pass to second reading.
Direct staff to include these amounts in the; preparation of the Fiscal Year 1996-97 budget.

ORDINANCE NO. 96-20
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA CLARITA, CALIFORNIA
AMENDING THE MUNICIPAL CODE AT
SECTION 2.26.080 RELATING TO THE
PLANNING COMMISSION COMPENSATION
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Santa Clarita, California, does hereby
ordain as follows;
SECTION 1. That the Municipal Code is hereby amended at Section 2.26.080, of Title
2, relating to the compensation and expenses for the members of the Planning Commission
as follows:
2.26.080 Compensation and Expenses. Each member of the PlanningCommission
shall receive compensation at the rate of One Hundred Ten Dollars ($110.00) for each
meeting of the Planning Commission attended by such member, not to exceed a total
compensation of Four Hundred Forty Dollars ($440.00) in any one month. Such
compensation shall be paid on the first payroll payment date following the end of each
calendar month. The Chairman or Vice -Chairman or other appointed officer of the
Planning Commission shall submit to the City Clerk at the end of each calendar
month, a statement showing the number of meetings of the Planning Commission
attended by each member during such month. No additional compensation shall be
paid for expenses incurred by members of the Planning Commission in the
performance of their duties except that the City Council may from time to time
authorize in advance, expenditures for attendance at seminars, institutes, or other
meetings which the City Council finds to be beneficial to the commissioners in the
performance of their duties, and in the best interest of the City. Claims for such
expenses shall be filed with the City Manager and shall be subject to audit and
approval by the City Council.
SECTION 2. That the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Ordinance and
shall cause it to be published in the manner required by law..

SECTION 1. That the Municipal Code is hereby amended at Section 2.28.090, of Title
2, relating to the compensation and expenses for the members of the Parks and Recreation
Commission, to read as follows:
2.28.090 Compensation and Expenses. Each member of the Parks and Recreation
Commission shall receive compensation at the rate of Eighty Dollars ($80.00) for each
meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission attended by such member, not to
exceed a total compensation of One 'Hundred Sixty Dollars ($160.00) in any one
month.. Such compensation shall be paid on the first payroll payment date following
the end of each calendar month. The Chairman or Vice -Chairman or other appointed
officer of the Parks and Recreation Commission shall submit to the City Clerk at the
end of each calendar month, a statement showing the number of meetings of the
Parks and Recreation Commission attended by each member during such month. No
additional compensation shall be paid for expenses incurred by member of the Parks
and Recreation Commission in the performance of their duties except that the City
