Newman CONSENT CALENDAR DATE: April 23, 1996 SUBJECT: ACCEPTANCE OF ALL WORK BY INTERTEX OF CALIFORNIA, INC., FOR CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT NOS. 94-02 AND 94-04 (CITY HALL EARTHQUAKE RESTORATION) DEPARTMENT: Building and Engineering Services BACKGROUND In the aftermath of the January 17, 1994 earthquake, the City retained the services of Intertex of California, Inc. for the repairs of the City Hall facility under Construction Contract No. 94-02.. During the restoration process; staff recommended and attained Council approval for additional repair and code compliance work which resulted in an increase in the contract scope and budget. The additional repair work resulted from previously undetected damage to structural and architectural elements of the facility. Code compliance work to the facility included an increase in the seismic strength of the building's frame, stairways, and support systems (air ducts, plumbing, lights, etc.) in order to bring the building into a structural standard required by state and local codes for essential structures. An emergency auxiliary power system has also been installed. These modifications now enable the facility to house the City's emergency operations center. Modifications to the facility for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act were done. Intertex of California, Inc. also provided repair and code compliance work on the building's roof -mounted heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. This work was done under Construction Contract No. 94-04. To date all work included in the original and revised scopes of work for both Construction Contract Nos. 94-02 and 94-04 has been completed by Intertex of California, Inc. to the satisfaction of the City. The auxiliary power system has been tested and has demonstrated that it meets the City's primary emergency requirements. n nn7 Aenda Item: -4:;L CITY HALL EARTHQUAKE RESTORATION CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT NOS. 94-02 AND 94-04 April 23, 1996 - Page 2 The total cost for time and materials under Construction Contract No. 94-02 is $4,072,000.00. The revised contract budget was $4,072,674,00. The total cost for time and materials under Construction Contract No, 94-04 is $85,777.60. The revised contract budget was $90,000.00. 1. City Council accept all work by Intertex of California, Inc. for the City Hall restoration work under Construction Contract Nos. 94-02 and 94-04 as complete and satisfactory; 2. Direct the City Clerk to file the attached Notices of Completion for both contracts; and 3. Release all retention of payment currently being held by the City for Contract No. 94-02. Work under said contract was completed on April 15, 1996 to the satisfaction of the City Engineer of the Building and Engineering Services Department, and was accepted by the City on April 23, 1996. Work under said contract was completed on June 17, 1994, to the satisfaction of the City Engineer of the Building and Engineering Services Department, and was accepted by the City on April 23, 1996..
