HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-05-14 - AGENDA REPORTS - IMPROV TRAFSIG MOD (2)AGENDA REPORT City Manager Approval i' Item to be presented by: Bahman Janka CONSENT CALENDAR DATE: May 14, 1996 SUBJECT: VALENCIA BOULEVARD/SOLEDAD CANYON ROAD MISCELLANEOUS STREET IMPROVEMENTS; SIGNING AND STRIPING; TRAFFIC SIGNAL MODIFICATIONSANSTALLATION'- PROJECT NO. 95-020 DEPARTMENT: Building and Engineering Services Staff is requesting the approval of Council to add additional work to the contract that the City entered into with R.0 Becker & Son, Inc. on September 20, 1995. A budget increase is also requested for the contract with the consulting firm of Albert Grover & Associates, Inc. who prepared the construction plans for this project. The additional work items for this project include the refurbishing of all left turn arrow pavement markings and stop bars, the conversion of all 8 inch traffic signal displays to 12 inch, and the installation of one additional signal head for the westbound direction at Valencia Boulevard and Citrus Street. These work items will enhance traffic safety by providing a more positive guidance to motorists along the project limits. There are project savings that will pay for these additional improvements. The project funds have a 50% MTA Prop C match. Funds for this extra work are available in Account Nos. 17-95020-227 and 28-95020-227. The Memorandum of Understanding between the City and MTA, which governs the grant conditions, states that these funds must be expended by June 30, 1996. The City will be able to take advantage of the MTA matching funds only if these additional work items are added to the contract by change order. Staff recommends that these additional work items be added to the existing project and the City Manager be authorized to execute a change order contract to R.C. Becker & Son, Inc. for the amount of $40,000, plus a 10% contingency. Also, on January 24, 1995, Council awarded a professional services contract to Albert Grover & Associates, Inc. to prepare a feasibility study and construction plans for this project. During construction additional needs for their professional services have been identified, Staff is requesting an increase to their contract in the amount of $6,000 to cover the cost of the additional design services required for this project. �'nn Agenda Item: PROJECT NO. 95-020 May 14, 1996 - Page 2 jamelmnow�� •► 1.
