SUBJECT: MARKETING SERVICES CONTRACT CHANGE FOR CITY OF SANTA
CLARITA TRANSIT
DEPARTMENT: Public Works
BACKGROUND
Santa Clarita Transit patronage continues to experience growth due in part to the marketing efforts
of our consultant and the Transit Division. Ridership is growing at a rate of 20 to 30% per month,
when compared to the same month the previous year. The consultant has created several low cost
targeted marketing initiatives; examples include programs aimed at new residents, jurors at the
Valencia Municipal Court, and real estate agents. The consultant has also negotiated several
cooperative marketing agreements with area businesses and has expanded the number of pass sales
outlets throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.
On June 27, 1995, the City Council approved entering into an annual agreement for marketing
services with James G. Moore, III not to exceed $52,500. Due to additional activities not planned
at the beginning of the fiscal year, it is necessary to increase the maximum amount originally
requested to a maximum not to exceed $64,000, Some of these activities include a program to install
transit information holders at bus stops and targeted direct mail efforts. Marketing costs thus far have
been below budgeted expenses, therefore, the cost of increasing the marketing consultant's contract
amount is already included in the Transit Division budget.
RECOMMENDATION
Subject to City Attorney approval, authorize the City Manager to amend the existing annual
agreement for marketing services with James G. Moore, III, not to exceed $64,000, from account
