HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997-10-28 - AGENDA REPORTS - 1996-97 ANNUAL SIDEWALK PGM (2)CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT CONSENT CALENDAR DATE: October 28, 1997 City Manager Approval Item to be presented by: T Brad Therrien SUBJECT: 1996/97 ANNUAL SIDEWALK PROGRAM - PROJECT NO. 50009 BID AWARD DEPARTMENT: Transportation and Engineering Services City Council award the contract for the 1996/97 Annual Sidewalk Program, Project No. 50009, to Padilla Paving in the amount of $77,245.50 and authorize a 15 percent contingency should any change orders to the contract become necessary. Authorize the City Manager or designee to execute and sign all documents, subject to City Attorney approval. On August 26, 1997, Council authorized the advertisement of Project No. S0009. This project will provide new sidewalks, pedestrian ramps, and curb and gutters in four City locations. Area I: West side of Honby Street between Santa Clara Street and Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country. Area II: East side of Atwood Boulevard between Evans Avenue and Powell Drive in Newhall. Area III: North of Sierra Highway between Friendly Valley Parkway and Whispering Leaves Drive, and the south side of Sierra Highway between Whispering Leaves Drive and Vista del Canon. Area IV: South side of McBean Parkway between the Interstate 5 off -ramp and Tournament Road. On Monday, September 22, 1997, the following bids were received by the City Clerk's office: Padilla Paving Co. Padilla & Sons, Inc. Kalban, Inc. R.C. Becker & Son, Inc. Location Santa Clarita, CA Sylmar, CA Sun Valley, CA Newhall, CA The Engineer's estimate for this project is $100,649.00. S0009 October 28, 1997 - Page 2 Staff recommends that the project be awarded to the lowest bidder, Padilla Paving Company of Sun Valley. Padilla Paving Company possesses a State Contractors License and is in good standing with the State Contractors License Board. The bid of $77,245.50 was reviewed for accuracy and conformance to the contract documents and was found to be complete. The references indicated that this contractor has performed work to their satisfaction. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS 1. No alternatives identified by staff. 2. Other action as determined by Council.
