CONSENT CALENDAR
DATE: July 8,1997
SUBJECT: HEADSTART LEASE AGREEMENT
DEPARTMENT: Parks, Recreation, and Community Services
BACKGROUND
On August 10, 1992, the City of Santa Clarita and Latin American Civic Association entered into
a lease agreement with the William S. Hart School District for use of the Walnut Street property
in Newhall for the Headstart program. In August 1996, the lease agreement was renewed for
an additional one year. The lease will expire on August 10, 1997.
City staff has worked with District staff on an amendment to the lease that would facilitate the
renewal process and would better serve the needs of the Headstart program. The proposed
lease amendment would provide for a two-year lease period and would automatically be renewed
for successive two-year terms unless written notice is provided by either party 365 days prior
to the each successive term. (See attached).
The City has included the annual lease costs in the amount of $4,800 in the City's FY 1997-98
Budget under Account Number 7100-8001.
RECOMMENDATION
City Council approve the amendment to lease between the City of Santa Clarita and the William
S. Hart Union High School District for the operation of a Headstart Program and direct the City
Manager to execute the lease upon approval by the District's board.
