SUBJECT: READING OF ORDINANCE TITLES
DEPARTMENT: City Manager
City Council determine that the titles to all ordinances which appear on this public agenda
have been read and waive further reading.
Government Code § 36934 requires that all ordinances be read in full prior to Council taking
action on the ordinance. By listing the ordinance title on the Council meeting agenda, Council
may determine that the title has been read. In addition, by placing an item on the Consent
Calendar to waive further reading of all ordinances whose titles appear on the public agenda,
the reading requirement set forth in the Government Code is satisfied once Council approves
the Consent Calendar item.
This provides an opportunity to streamline the process and shorten Council meetings and is in
compliance with the Government Code regarding the introduction and adoption of ordinances.
