SUBJECT: VALENCIA BOULEVARD AT CREEKSIDE ROAD BARRIER RAIL
IMPROVEMENTS - PROJECT NO. 71009 - PROJECT ACCEPTANCE
DEPARTMENT: Transportation and Engineering Services
City Council accept the work performed by Security Paving Company on the Valencia
Boulevard at Creekside Road Barrier Rail Improvements, Project No. 71009. Direct the City
Clerk to file the attached Notice of Completion. Direct staff to release the 10 percent retention
35 days after the Notice of Completion is recorded, provided no stop notices, as provided by law,
have been filed.
BACKGROUND
On May 13, 1997, Council awarded a contract for the subject project to Security Paving
Company. This project upgraded the existing bridge barrier railing on Valencia Boulevard over
the South Fork of the Santa Clara River (see Exhibit A). The existing substandard metal
railing was removed and replaced with a concrete bridge barrier rail. The same decorative tile
work that is on the Magic Mountain Parkway bridge near San Fernando Road was installed on
the new concrete bridge barrier rail. In addition, crash cushions were placed in the center
median area to prevent.traffic from hitting the flat surface created by the existing concrete
bridge railing. These improvements will increase traffic safety in the area.
The project was completed to the satisfaction of the City Engineer on October 9, 1997. The
project was completed on time and within budget.
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS
No alternative actions identified by staff.
FISCAL IMPACT
The total project budget was $279,991.00, and the total cost was $250,923.19.

NOTICE OF COMPLETION
1. The City of Santa Clarita, a municipal corporation, is the owner in fee, except for the right-of-way upon
which it has been constructed, of a certain public improvement known as: Valencia Boulevard at
Creekside Road Barrier Rail Improvements - Project No. 71009.
2. The City's address is: 23920 Valencia Boulevard, Suite 300, Santa Clarita, CA 91355-2196.
3. The general location of said public improvement is on Valencia Boulevard over the South Fork of the
Santa Clara River.
4. On May 13, 1997, a contract to construct said public improvement was awarded to: Security Paving
Company, P.O. Box 1489, Sun Valley, CA 91353-1489
5. Work under said contract was completed on October 9, 1997 to the satisfaction of the City Engineer,
and was accepted by the City on October 28, 1997.
