CONSENT CALENDAR CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT City Manager Item to be pre, DATE: September 22, 1998 SUBJECT: CITYWIDE SIDEWALK REPLACEMENT AND ACCESS RAMP INSTALLATION — (PROJECT NO: PWS -4) -PROJECT ACCEPTANCE DEPARTMENT: Transportation and Engineering Services RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council accept the work performed by C.A. Rasmussen, Inc. on the repair work completed on damaged sidewalks, curb, gutter, driveway approaches, and pedestrian access ramps. Approve a budget transfer in the amount of $21,368.58 from Account No: 5211-8061 to Account No.S0010201-8001 to cover the cost of additional improvements performed. Direct the City Clerk to file the attached Notice of Completion. Direct staff to release the 10% retention 35 days after the Notice of Completion is recorded, provided no stop notices, as provided by law, have been filed. On June 24, 1997, Council awarded a contract for the subject project to C.A. Rasmussen, Inc. This project implemented.two of the City's annual sidewalk and access ramp programs. The first program repaired damaged sidewalks, curb, gutter, driveway approaches, and pedestrian access ramps that were damaged due to street tree root lifting and other causes. The contract replaced damaged public improvements, which had either been reported by residents or identified by City staff. The second program installed new pedestrian access ramps throughout the City. Priority for the new installations was given to existing transit routes and routes heavily used by children going to and from school. The proposed repairs and new access ramp installations were located throughout the City. During construction, additional repair needs were identified in areas adjacent to the contractor's work and were repaired at the same time. The additional work could have been postponed to the next fiscal year; however, it was deemed more beneficial to perform the work at this time. After three months of discussions, staff and C.A. Rasmussen, Inc. avoided a costly claim by negotiating quantities and prices for additional work discovered during construction. All work was completed to the satisfaction of the City Engineer on July 20, 1998. This project was completed on schedule and within the adjusted budget. °tu'J�tD Agenda Item: L1 A. A budget transfer from Account No. 5211-8061, Street Maintenance, Curb and Sidewalk is funding this additional amount. The total cost for this project was $319,321.00, which includes staff time, design, and survey costs. The City of Santa Clarita, a municipal corporation, is the owner in fee, except forthe right-of-way upon which it has been constructed, of a certain public improvement known as CITYWIDE SIDEWALK REPLACEMENT AND ACCESS RAMP INSTALLATION — PROJECT NO. PWS -4. 2. The City's address is 23920 Valencia Boulevard, Suite 300, Santa Clarita, California 91355-2196. 3. The general location of said public improvement is multiple locations within the City of Santa Clarita. 4. On September 11, 1997, a contract to construct said public improvement was awarded to C.A. Rasmussen, Inc., Antelope Valley Division, 1111 West Avenue L-12, Suite B, Lancaster, California 93534. 5. Work under said contract was completed on July 20, 1998, to the satisfaction of the City Engineer, and was accepted by the City on September 22, 1998.
