Approve and authorize the City Manager, or designee, to execute the contracts . accepting the $225,056 grant from the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. 2. Establish estimated revenues in the Miscellaneous Grants Fund account #453-5054. 3. Appropriate $1,500 to account #7444-7302; $500 to account #7444-7306; $500 to account #7444-7307; $200 to account #7444-7309; $4,000 to account #7444-7312; $5,000 to account #7444-7320; and $213,356 to account #7444-8001. 4. Authorize the City Manager, or designee, to execute any agreements or change orders arising out of the Santa Clarita Tobacco Prevention Program. BACKGROUND The City of Santa Clarita has been approved to receive one year of grant funding from Los Angeles County Department of Health Services for a Tobacco Control Services Program. Funding will be used to continue a community outreach and education program developed in 1997 with similar grant funding. The goals of the program, entitled "Santa Clarita Tobacco Prevention Program," are to: Provide business owners with skills and information to comply with tobacco control laws that reduce exposure to environmental tobacco smoke. Provide information to the community, especially youth, regarding the risks of environmental tobacco smoke. Work toward. policy change, reducing exposure to environmental tobacco smoke. City staff is working in collaboration with the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, and William S. Hart Union School District to implement programs and activities to meet the grant objectives. P pi jPR 'D , ; ItenieRP Lr 2 ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS Other action as determined by City Council.
