HomeMy WebLinkAbout1998-12-08 - AGENDA REPORTS - METROLINK STATION (2)V CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT NEW BUSINESS City Manager Approval: Item to be presented by: Jo Anne Darcy DATE: December 8, 1998 SUBJECT: NAMING OF THE NEWHALL METROLINK STATION DEPARTMENT: City Manager RECOMMENDED ACTION Officially name the City's third Metrolink Station "Tbe Jan Heidt Newhall Metrolink Station." BACKGROUND Mayor Janice H. Heidt has historically demonstrated tremendous leadership, especially in the area of transportation. She was selected by her colleagues to represent the San Fernando Valley/North County region of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) as an alternate board member to promote regional interests. Since inception of Metrolink service in October of 1992, Mayor Janice H. Heidt has been a respected board member of the Southern California Regional Rail Authority. From 1992-1997 she spearheaded various actions, attended dozens of meetings, and generated volumes of correspondence to gain MTA approvals for grants totaling $10,639,012 that benefited the City of Santa Clarita. This funding was used in building river trails, commuter bikeways, Metrolink Corridor projects in Canyon Country, Saugus and Newhall, bicycle pedestrian connector access, Rail Station trails, connections to Intermodal Transportation Centers, the Lyons Interconnect Project, the Sierra Highway Six Lane Project, the Valencia Soledad and Bouquet/Seco Interconnect Project, the Santa Clarita Transit Center and Bike Station, Santa Clarita Commuter Connection, Santa Clarita pedestrian access to transit stops and the Newhall Metrolink Station. In addition to this, she has been actively involved in MTA, Metrolink and Budget Committees, the North County Transportation Coalition, the Northern Corridor Cities Committee covering Agoura Hills, Burbank, Glendale, Hidden Hills, LaCanada/Flintridge, Malibu, San Fernando, Santa Clarita, Westlake Village, LA County, Palmdale, and Lancaster, the Call for Projects Committee, League of California Cities LAC Division and Contract Cities Assn. This representation of Santa Clarita in a regional forum helped to bring Santa Clarita's issues to the forefront for funding and action. u. d II , � Y ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS None FISCAL IMPACT None by this action.
