SUBJECT: PUBLIC OPINION SURVEY OF SANTA CLARITA CUSTOMERS
DEPARTMENT: City Manager
RECOMMENDED ACTION
City Council direct staff to enter into an agreement for professional services with Personal
Touch Marketing to conduct a public opinion survey, not to exceed $13,900.00.
The Joint City Council and Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce task force "The Year of
Small Business," in its January 1998 meeting recommended the City's Economic Development
Division coordinate a public opinion survey of Santa Clarita residents. The intent of the survey
is to understand the opinions and perceptions of customers in the Valley as a first step towards
assisting existing businesses.
A professionally conducted survey would investigate current residential shopping patterns,
reasons why residents shop different areas of Santa Clarita, why and when they shop outside
of the Valley, preferences for new retail uses, perceptions about existing retail uses, and so
forth.
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS
None.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funding is budgeted to conduct this marketing research in the Economic Development Division
in Account No. 1811-8110.
