Approve and authorize the City Manager, or designee, to execute any contracts, agreements, or change orders arising out of the Office of Traffic Safety, Operation Safe Schools and Streets Grant. 2. Establish estimated revenues in the amount of $65,400 it Miscellaneous Grants Fund account #453-5173. 3. Appropriate $65,400 to account #7448-8001. BACKGROUND In January 1998, the City of Santa Clarita and the Santa Clarita Valley SheriffsStation applied for funding from the State of California Office of Traffic Safety for an Operation Safe Schools and Streets Grant. The State of California Office of Traffic and Safety has awarded Santa Clarita $65,400 in funding. The purpose of this program is to permanently change public attitude and behavior concerning speeding and drinking and driving. The grant funding combines enforcement with public information and education through conducting Driving Under the Influence checkpoints and Radar Speed Enforcement efforts. The grant period is from July 1, 1998 to September 30, 1999. City. staff will provide administrative support for this program. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS 1. Decline the Office of Traffic Safety Grant at this time. 2. Other action as determined by City Council. FISCAL IMPACT The total project budget and costs of this program are estimated to be $65,400 to be offset completely by grant revenue. There is no City match required.
