Heidt and ber the ity Council FROM: eor ar v h ,' y ager DATE: September 1, 199 SUBJECT: WATER IN THE SANTA CLARITA VALLEY RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council receive presentation and discuss. BACKGROUND On May 5, 1998, the City Council received a study session on water issues in the Santa Clarita Valley. The presentation included information presented by the city staff and the water wholesaler, CLWA. At that time, the City Council requested a second study session to include representation from the water purveyors. They also requested more time for questions. To that end, a second water study session was scheduled and water purveyors were invited, along with the wholesaler, to provide a 20 -minute presentation. At the request of local activists, a 20 -minute time period is also being allotted to the group of activists who meet monthly with the City Manager. Additional agenda time has also been granted at the request of the Valencia Industrial Association and the SCV Chamber of Commerce to provide information to the City Council. ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS Other action as determined by Council. FISCAL IMPACT None by this action. It is our intention to make some general comments concerning the need for providing a sufficient supply of quality water at a reasonable cost for businesses and industries. As mentioned in our previous request, we want to be assured about the adequacy of water for production processes and landscaping as well as reliance on the sufficiency of potable water for employees. There will be three persons who would appreciate an allocation of approximately 5 to 10 minutes total to address the Council.
