Appropriate $30,000 to account 1210-7320 from contingency account 1240-7401. BACKGROUND Earlier this year, the City Council requested that staff provide information regarding costs, etc. for a City newsletter. Staff has surveyed 12 cities with demographics similar to Santa Clarita. Of those 12, eight have regular newsletters mailed to City residents, two utilize their parks and recreation guide to disseminate information as we do, and two do neither. Santa Clarita has never done a regular newsletter to residents. Instead, staff has relied on a variety of less costly methods of providing information about the City to the community. Some of these include: eight pages of information in every quarterly SEASONS magazine (the Parks and Recreation guide); weekly press releases; a regular public access television show, public service announcements to radio and public access television; advertisements in local publications and on cable television; bus shelter posters; specialty newsletters for specific issues (such as redevelopment); street light banners; paseo banners; flyers; brochures; special events, community meetings, and our City website, which receives 3,000 hits per month. - It should be noted that shortly after Cityhood, a 12 -month calendar which featured photographs of the community was produced and mailed to every household in the City at a cost of $50,000.
