M3002 AND T0004 AUTHORIZATION TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS DEPARTMENT: Transportation & Engineering Services RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council approve the plans and specifications, and authorize the advertising of bids for the construction of Fiscal Year 1999-2000 Curb and Gutter Repair and Access Ramp Installation Program, Project Nos. M3002 and T0004. BACKGROUND This project implements the City's annual program to repair damaged curb and gutter, and install pedestrian access ramps. The list of locations was generated from residents' telephone calls received by Field Services and Transportation & Engineering Services Departments. The locations were inspected and prioritized by City staff. The curb and gutter repairs were prioritized based on the severity of the drainage problem as a result of the damaged curb and gutter. A majority of the damage was due to overgrown tree roots. The locations for access ramp installation were prioritized based on their proximity to "Suggested Routes to School," as identified by the City's Traffic Engineering Division. Postpone bidding until after the Fiscal Year 1999-2000 budget is adopted. Bidding this project now allows work to start soon after approval of the 1999-2000 budget. If the item is postponed, the work cannot commence until September 1999. 2. Other action as determined by the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT The Engineer's Estimate for the construction of the Fiscal Year 1999-2000 Curb and Gutter Repair and Access Ramp Construction Program is $178,312. Funds in the amount of $150,000 from Account No. M3002456, and $100,000 from Account No. T0004001 are requested in the Fiscal Year 1999-2000 budget, contingent upon budget adoption. Bidding this project now allows work to start soon after approval of the 1999-2000 budget. If this item is postponed, the work cannot commence until September 1999.
