BACKGROUND
On April 13, 1999, the City Council approved the Golden Valley Road/Golden Valley High
School project. The project involves the construction of a 8,500 -foot -long roadway extending
from Sierra Highway to the southern edge of Tract 42670, which is southerly of Redview
Drive. The road will be graded to its ultimate width of 116 feet with 140 feet at the
intersections. Ultimately, the road will be a major highway with six lanes and
augmentation at intersections.
Golden Valley Road will serve as the primary access to the school site proposed by the
William S. Hart Union High School District. The District is currently in the process of
acquiring 50 acres within the project area to develop a 2,400 -student high school at the
eastern corner of the future Via Princessa and Golden Valley Road.
The project also required modifications to the Porta Bella Development Agreement to allow
for Golden Valley Road to extend approximately 2,200 feet along the eastern boundary of
the Porta Bella site. General Plan amendments and zone changes were approved to allow
for more appropriate land uses in proximity to the school site and Golden Valley Road.
