BACKGROUND
During the City budget process, the issue of hospital services was discussed. Since that time
the City has met with the Hospital on two separate occasions, including a joint meeting with
the Hospital Foundation on September 21, 1999. At that time, the Council discussed hospital
services and received a presentation from both Lisa Foust of Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial
Hospital and a representative from the Los Angeles County Public Health Department.
Based on that meeting, the Council discussed making a financial contribution to the Henry
Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Trauma Center. At that time, the Hospital indicated that
they had raised approximately $360,000. However, they needed $1.1 million. The Council
recommended that the City participate in the fund raising effort by offering $2 to $1 cash match
contribution. Thus, for every two dollars the Hospital raises for the Trauma Center (above and
beyond the $360,000), the City will match with one dollar, up to a maximum $200,000. City
staff has spoken with senior staff and Board members of Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial
Health Foundation and they indicated their appreciation for a grant in this amount.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funding is available in City Council Contingency account.
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS
1. Other actions as identified by the City Council.
2. City Council contribute less than the recommended maximum $200,000.
3. City Council contribute more than the recommended maximum of $200,000.
