Caravalho, City Manager DATE: August 31, 1999 SUBJECT: HUMAN RELATIONS FORUM UPDATE RECOMMENDED ACTION City Council receive presentation and view the video on The Color of Fear presented by Mike Ballard and Gary Mast, members of the Santa Clarita Valley Human Relations Forum. BACKGROUND The Santa Clarita Human Relations Forum was founded in May 24, 1994, when members of the community addressed the Santa Clarita City Council requesting immediate action toward stopping the growing problem of racism and hate -related incidents within the community. The Human Relations Forum is a task force to address cultural diversity and racism in the Santa Clarita Valley. The Forum consists of volunteers from the community and is funded by the City. The Color of Fear presentation and video take a personal, heartfelt look at the effects of racism. It increases one's awareness of personal biases and explores how these biases, whether known or unknown, impact the lives of people around us.
