HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-11-23 - AGENDA REPORTS - MOU COC PERFORM ARTS CENTER (2)CITY OF SANTA CLARITA AGENDA REPORT CONSENT CALENDAR DATE: November 23, 1999 City Manager Item to be presented by: " Rick Putnam SUBJECT: MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU) BETWEEN THE COLLEGE OF THE CANYONS AND THE CITY OF SANTA CLARITA CONCERNING CONSTRUCTION OF A PERFORMING ARTS CENTER ON THE COLLEGE CAMPUS DEPARTMENT: Parks, Recreation, and Community Services City Council approve the Memorandum of Understanding and authorize the City Manager or his designee to execute all relative documents , subject to City Attorney approval. BACKGROUND On July 13, 1999, the City Council approved the concept of entering into a Memorandum of Understanding with the College of.the Canyons for the construction of a performing arts center on the College of the Canyons campus. The City's interest in participating in this project was to fund the increased seating capacity of the theater from a 450 -seat facility to a 950 -seat complex and to support a piece of public art at the site. The cost to the City to increase the seating capacity is estimated at $2.4 million. The City Council requested that, among other things, the MOU address the following interests: 1. Clarification of the amount of time that will be available for College vs. community use. 2. Consideration of the City of Santa Clarita to be included in the name of the facility. 3. Clarification as to who would be responsible for maintaining and operating the facility. These items and other appropriate considerations for a joint use agreement have been addressed in the Memorandum of Understanding. ippjjApLNflAgenda '8 ALTERNATIVE ACTION Endorse a modified Memorandum of Understanding. Reject the Memorandum of Understanding, and not participate with the College on this project.
