AGENDA REPORT
CONSENT CALENDAR
City Manager Approval:
DATE: July 13, 1999 Item to be presented
SUBJECT: CITY SUPPORT FOR STATE OPEN SPACE BOND LEGISLATION
AND FULL FUNDING FOR THE FEDERAL LAND AND WATER
CONSERVATION FUND
DEPARTMENT: Planning & Building Services
RECOMMENDED ACTION
Adopt Resolution 99-138 and Resolution 99-139.
BACKGROUND
Legislators at the State and Federal levels are working to provide funding for the
preservation of open space in California and throughout the United States. The
preservation of open space in and around the City has been a high priority within the
community for many years. The proposed reauthorization of the $900 Million Federal Land
and Water Conservation Fund and the $2 Billion State Open Space Bond measures are
sources of critical funding for the preservation of the canyons and hillsides of the Santa
Clarita Valley.
The City's support of these efforts is of critical importance for the approval of the legislation
and the eventual funding for local projects. Two letters from the Mayor have been sent one
to Washington, D.C. and one to Sacramento, in support of these efforts. While letters are
effective, resolutions passed by the City Council convey a higher level of commitment and
support.
ALTERNATIVE ACTIONS
Other actions as determined by the City Council.
FISCAL IMPACT
This action will have no fiscal impact. Support for the legislation may result in funding for
local park and open space projects in the future.
