sustainability on October 6, 1998. During this study session the Council and Commission
received a presentation about the concept of sustainability and discussed current activities and
additional activities that could be undertaken to contribute to maintaining the community's
quality of life into fixture. The City Council requested that an additional study session be held
with the Parks & Recreation Commission to discuss the issue in greater detail. The City Council
also requested that a report on the City's sustainability be prepared for their consideration during
the study session.
Staff has prepared a preliminary report outlining existing activities that are undertaken by the City
to contribute to the long-term well being of the community. It also identifies some of the other
groups in the community who are also involved in achieving sustainability. The report provides a
listing of ideas for additional activities that can be undertaken by the City and others in the
community to further enhance sustainability. The report recommends several projects that can be
undertaken in the, very near future by the City and others that will help to define sustainability in
Santa Clarita, educate and mobilize the community and develop indicators of success in attaining
a sustainable way of life.
