SUBJECT: TERMINATE REDEVELOPMENT SERVICES AGREEMENT WITH
THE LAW FIRM OF BROWN, WINFIELD & CANZONERI
DEPARTMENT: Redevelopment Agency
RECOMMENDED ACTION
Board Members of the Redevelopment Agency direct the Executive Director/City Manager to
terminate redevelopment legal services being provided by the law firm of Brown, Winfield &
Canzoneri. Authorize the Executive Director/City Manager to execute a letter providing
written notification as is required by the Agreement.
Direct staff to solicit proposals from law firms specializing in redevelopment law in order to
provide the City with redevelopment services as needed.
BACKGROUND
In November 1996, the Redevelopment Agency of the City of Santa Clarita entered into an
agreement with the law firm of Brown, Winfield & Canzoneri to provide the Agency with
redevelopment services. Since that time the Agency has used their services on an as needed
basis.
Recently, the City was notified that Brown, Winfield & Canzoneri represent a Developer in a
lawsuit against the City of Santa Clarita relating to developer fees. At this time, staff feels it
is inconsistent with the relationship we expect from a firm representing the Agency's/City's
redevelopment interest to be engaged in a lawsuit against the City. Therefore, staff would like
to terminate those services. Staff would also like to solicit proposals from law firms specializing
in redevelopment.
