ITEM 1 HENRY MAYO NEWHALL MEMORIAL HOSPITAL
PRESENTATION — Lisa Foust, President of the Henry Mayo

study commissioned by the Hospital of the area's projected population
growth and demographics as it relates to health care needs over the
next two decades. Information was also provided regarding the
Hospital's expansion and merger plans.
Council questions and concerns: the reputation of a possible merging
company; having a competitive hospital; the location of the facility
given the long-term growth of the area; splitting the facility to create
another facility beyond an 8 -year growth period; the ability of
responding to a disaster with services at one location; having satellite
offices/facilities; i`he size of an average service area and the size of this
area; and taking wellness programs into consideration when
projecting for growth.
Ms. Foust provided a copy of the Hospital's report entitled "Population
Projections, Demographic Analysis and Healthcare Services Demand
Forecast for the Santa Clarita Valley" dated January 8, 1999.
ITEM 2 SANTA CLARITA SPORTS COMPLEX DRAFT MASTER PLAN
PRESENTATION - George Caravalho, City Manager, provided an
overview of the plan and introduced Ken Trone, Park Development
Coordinator, who explained how the plan was drafted and the
components of the facility.
Council questions and concerns: the possibility of having a community
stage; providing road and transit access; obtaining public-private
partnerships; acknowledging the contributions of the youth action
committee; the timing of the school bond measure and asking for the
support from seniors to get the measure passed; looking at
alternatives with the adventure area to promote less violent activities;
looking into having a kitchen/catering area; and acknowledging staffs
efforts.
Mayor Darcy called for general Public Participation. Effie Bird spoke regarding
Central Park and Mike Shanklin spoke regarding the Sports Complex.
