HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-05-04 - MINUTES - STUDY SESSION NOTES (2)City Council Study Session May 4, 1999 Call To Order: 5:32 p.m. Roll Call: All Councilmembers were present Flag Salute: Councilmember Heidt ITEM 1 HENRY MAYO NEWHALL MEMORIAL HOSPITAL PRESENTATION — Lisa Foust, President of the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Health Foundation, presented the results of a study commissioned by the Hospital of the area's projected population growth and demographics as it relates to health care needs over the next two decades. Information was also provided regarding the Hospital's expansion and merger plans. Council questions and concerns: the reputation of a possible merging company; having a competitive hospital; the location of the facility given the long-term growth of the area; splitting the facility to create another facility beyond an 8 -year growth period; the ability of responding to a disaster with services at one location; having satellite offices/facilities; i`he size of an average service area and the size of this area; and taking wellness programs into consideration when projecting for growth. Ms. Foust provided a copy of the Hospital's report entitled "Population Projections, Demographic Analysis and Healthcare Services Demand Forecast for the Santa Clarita Valley" dated January 8, 1999. ITEM 2 SANTA CLARITA SPORTS COMPLEX DRAFT MASTER PLAN PRESENTATION - George Caravalho, City Manager, provided an overview of the plan and introduced Ken Trone, Park Development Coordinator, who explained how the plan was drafted and the components of the facility. Council questions and concerns: the possibility of having a community stage; providing road and transit access; obtaining public-private partnerships; acknowledging the contributions of the youth action committee; the timing of the school bond measure and asking for the support from seniors to get the measure passed; looking at alternatives with the adventure area to promote less violent activities; looking into having a kitchen/catering area; and acknowledging staffs efforts. Mayor Darcy called for general Public Participation. Effie Bird spoke regarding Central Park and Mike Shanklin spoke regarding the Sports Complex.
