Flag Salute: Was led by Laurens Weste ITEM 1 ONE-STOP CAREER CENTER UPDATE — Adele Macpherson, Community Services Superintendent, presented Council with an update on the One -Stop Career Center including the status of the operation over the past year of the operation as well as a breakdown of the grant monies that have been awarded to the City for this Program. Council questions and concerns: age range of citizens using the facility; funding; welfare to work program; long term mentoring program; companies seeking recruits from this program; downsizing of companies within the area; please with the program and realize the long term positive affects. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION: John Steffen requested clarification on the breakdown of the figures, and how much the program would cost the average tax payer. ITEM 2 MCBEAN PARKWAY SIX -LANE STRIPING — Tony Nisich, Director of Transportation and Engineering Services, presented Council with an overview and options regarding the constraints to accomplish six lanes, and provided potential alternatives that would need to be considered if this proposal is pursued. Assisting Tony Nisich in the presentation were Bill Dvorak and Ed Ruzak of Kimley- Horn and Associates, Inc., consultants on the project. Council questions and concerns: Add an Option 3 — (do nothing); liability issues; notice issues; speed limits; visibility issues; left -turn restrictions; improvements on signalization; 25-40 trees affecting the area; request for more documentation in the agenda packets on these kind of issues; shifting of traffic on Lyons Avenue; sacrifice of eucalyptus trees is minor compared to the positive outcome; must be sensitive to this issue before decision is made; desire for community/neighborhood meeting; median concerns; concern for emergency vehicles in the area of the hospital; design concerns; request for a tour of the area; accident figures from this area; traffic model requested; minimizing the number of trees to be removed; larger investment on more mature trees; weight all risks involved; concerns of people in Allegro neighborhood; notify schools with flyers notifying them that trees are going to be fazed out.
